Sweden !!!

I was fortunate to take a trip of a lifetime this spring (2015). I was invited by my friend Johan Ruhe of KanalGratis . The plan: Join him at the Sportfiske Mässan show in Jönkoping. Then we would travel the country fishing for BIG prespawn pike in the Baltic and connecting waters .  Fishing the Baltic has always been one of dreams - to do it with friends was to much to pass up !

So on March 18th I boarded a plane bound for Stockholm .

My trip did not disappoint. I met so many new friends and spent time with existing good friends. I learned a ton about fishing for pike in the Baltic , saw some amazing lures and fishing stores! I got to eat some good food and some interesting food . Most of which on film 😜.

I want to thank everyone that made my trip so awesome . Especially Johan and Lisa for taking care of me the entire trip , Jöjje Wester - my brother from a Swedish mother , of course my good friend Claes Claesson- for sharing his home waters ,hospitality and food with me . The KanalGratis crew: Pontus, Alex,Sarah,Matilda and William . And so many more people that there is not enough room to post them all.

Sweden- you ROCK! I can't wait to come back !

13" "Stalefish"

I have made a couple different version of the "Stalefish" over the years. This is the newest version and the first to have a screw in Jighead. This gives the angler many more rigging options.For example, you can choose between weights of the jighead ( from .5 oz all the way up to 3oz), or you can rig it shallow with out the jig heads. I have made a new innovative screw in weight system so that you can add a weight anywhere to the body you want. I will post picture of that with a video in the coming days.

I recently had the pleasure to share my boat with my good friend Claes Claeson from Svartzoner Sweden and Johan Ruhe from KanalGratis TV. We filmed an episode for Svartzonker TV during the Frank Schneider Muskie tournament. We had a great time filming and fishing. Johan and his crew have produced some of the best fishing films in the world. I have no reason to believe that this one won't be spectacular!  I will let everyone know when the episode is released .

Here is a concept that I have been working on since this fall. 

I was fishing with my friend Paul in October. He had this Glidebait that he doctored up with rubber bands to hold the hooks against the bait. He also had a dedicated leader that was crimped directly to the lure. He was obsessed with the bait being quiet. And he caught fish!

This is my version. The hooks lock into a channel on the top of the lure. They release on the strike,but stay attached to the bait. The fish cannot use the weight of the lure to throw the bait.

Why we do it...

I fished one of the largest, if not the largest Muskie tournament in the world last weekend with my friend Stephan Nielsen. Stephan travels from Sweden a few times a year to fish with my friends and I . We ended up having a great tourney finishing third place out of 525 people! We started the tourney fishing a pattern that no one else was using. It was good enough for us to catch a fat 52.5"! We had a few other chances at some more big fish that day, but we couldn't keep them pinned. Day two, the pattern held up and we caught a 47". We again had a shot at another really nice fish, but it wasn't meant to be. Day three and we had once last chance to take first place, but the fish did not commit. Not only did we get 3rd place, we also had the largest fish of the tournament and we had an awesome time doing it! See you in October Big buddy!

Rumor,Rumor, Rumor......

A newly designed 12" Rumor. This one will easily get down to 10+ feet. Perfect for robbing the Coontail! The colors are pretty straight forward on these. The First one is "Lemon Danish". I made this color at the request of the "Crazy Dane" Stephan Nielson. The second color might just be my new favorite. It was created for my Friend Chris Thury. His two favorite colors are Pike and "anything pink". So I combined the two to create "Thury's Pink Sox". There is double meaning there. I'll let you figure that out on your own ;) Third color is straight forward Perch.

Esox Assualt

It has been a little while since I have posted anything. Now that the Holidays are over I have a lot more time to work on lure making. These are the first of 2013. Nothing too crazy about the lures. They are just solid Glildebaits. 13" long, all cedar construction and paint :)  I have about 8 more Esox baits in process right now. I will have some Pike and a few different Muskie colors. These happen to be Leech Lake strain yearling color.

Big Ten Inch

I haven't made any "small" cranks in a long time. So it was time. This one is 10" long, all Cedar with a "Supernatural" style clevis pin lip.The beauty of the clevis pin design is that the bait always wanders, but always comes back to center without "blowing out".  This is due to not having a fixed tow point. This design has been proven on the "Supernatural" line of baits and the ones that I have made using this set up. I can't wait to drag this one around!

Let's get Vertical

I have had lots of luck the last few years vertical jigging the deep weed lines on my home lake. I made a few rubber baits that were unique (those pics soon). For some reason I never thought about a wood version. Until now. This one is cedar and is 12" in length. It has an amazing action on the pull and the drop. Much more wiggle than any of the plastic. It looks like a giant rattlebait on a straight retrieve. I can't wait to get it out the river this fall too!!

All Cedar. Foil Sucker pattern. This one has already scored a few fish this summer and no longer looks so pretty. Just the way it should be :)

Smolt

I just updated the "Smolt" for 2013. Slightly larger than the previous version . Rubber version pics soon .

my Dad

Well I have to post a pic of my Dad. It is his fault that I make lures,kind of. He instilled in me the pursuit of excellence and the value of paying attention to the details. At least that is what I think he was talking about during the hour long lectures he used to give my brother and me when I was in trouble ;)  Thanks Dad!
